Client: South Hams District Council
Main contractor: South West Concrete Repairs Ltd
Work involved: Concrete Repairs, Specialist Coatings & Floor Coatings
Date: March 2025

The Brief

SWCR were asked to survey the staircase for defects and identified numerous areas of spalled and cracked concrete along with damage to the nosings of the staircase and steps which were very smooth and slippery.

The Solution

The defective concrete areas were removed using mechanical breakers and the steel reinforcement cleaned and treated. Timber shuttering erected where necessary and repairs made using the Intercrete (formerly Flexcrete) repair system, Steel protector 841, Bonding Bridge 842 and Monomix HD repair mortars. The staircase was cleaned and prepared and then the Intercrete Bond Prime applied before two coats of Intercrete Monodex smooth anti-carbonation paint coating.

The stair treads were repaired before application of Degafloor B71 primer, followed by a base coat of Degafloor 465 RTU Dark Grey, whilst wet FB Seal Grey anti slip aggregate was broadcastover the top. Once cured, excess aggregate was swept off and then Degafloor 530 Seal was applied to encapsulate the anti-slip and to finalise the coating system.
