Work involved: Concrete Repairs & Coatings
Date: July 2023 - August 2023

The Brief

East Street is within the city centre of Newquay, a popular tourist Cornish hotspot. SWCR carried out an investigative survey on the concrete elements at the request of MBA Consulting. The survey identified defective concrete sections internally and externally and the presence of carbonation which does adversely affect the long-term performance of concrete.

The Solution

The internal soffits needed temporary propping during the repair works to the concrete encased RSJ beams. The defective concrete was broken out, steel flanges cleaned and painted with protective coating before repair with Intercrete 4801 a heavy duty repair mortar.

The pilasters were fixed back in place using Reca, Rechem Resin P380 and after repair the external panels were treated with Intercrete 4820 a levelling render to give additional protection. The external areas were then painted with a two full coats of anti carbonation coating to give the building extra protection and a full uniform finish.
