CONTRACT HISTORY

WAR MEMORIAL

Main Contractor:
SWCR Ltd.

Project: War Memorial – Cleaning and remedial works

Client: Plymouth City Council

Main Contractor: SWCR Ltd

Start Date: 21 April 2008

INTRODUCTION

The requirements of the contract were to clean the masonry surfaces and re-point loose and missing mortar joints. In order to remove the carbon deposits a specialist cleaning agent was required which as well as being aggressive enough to remove the carbon but damage the masonry surfaces. The product also had to be environmentally friendly.

South West Concrete Repairs Ltd recommended a suitable product which was brush applied, scrubbed into the surface and then removed using a high pressure power washer. Up to five separate applications were required on the worst affected areas.

Loose mortar joints were removed and replaced using a sand / cement / lime mix mortar designed to match colour and texture of the original mortar joints.
