Investigation Surveys & Reports

INTRODUCTION
Before any remedial works can be carried out our clients need to know the present condition of the structure and the causes of any deterioration. Without this information it is impossible to make an informed judgement on the type and extent of remedial works required and the most appropriate methods and materials to be specified.

Cover Meter Survey

Cover meter survey being carried out to determine the depth of concrete cover to the steel reinforcement.
Carbonation depth testing
Phenolphthalein indicator solution being sprayed onto concrete to determine carbonation depth

SURVEY & TESTING
South West Concrete Repairs Ltd offer a full range of services which are tailored to suit the needs of our clients. Non destructive testing such as visual survey, hammer testing, cover meter surveys and soundness testing are often preferred in the initial stages of a project.

Visual Surveys
Used to determine the possible reasons for concrete deterioration and the general condition of the structure, the extent of works necessary to remedy the failure and the most suitable materials and the most appropriate repair system to effect repair.

Cover Meter Surveys
Identify steel reinforcement within the structure and is used to determine steel reinforcement bar spacing, size of reinforcement bars and the depth of reinforcement from surface.

Carbonation Depth Testing
Used to determine the extent carbon dioxide and other gases have penetrated the concrete, carbon dioxide has a detrimental affect on the concretes natural alkalinity.

Soundness or Hammer Test Survey
Give a general appraisal of the “soundness” of the concrete and identifies hollow or honeycombed areas beneath the surface. Also used to identify delamination of surface coatings.

Rebound or Schmidt Hammer Testing
Gives an approximate indication of the concrete strength, when used over large areas can also indicate variability in strength over the structure.

Chloride Testing
Determines the amount of chlorides within the concrete. Chlorides lead to increased risk of corrosion of embedded metals and adversely effect the sulphate resistance of the concrete.
