Survey & Testing

Before any remedial works can be carried out our clients need to know the present condition of the structure and the cause of any deterioration. Without this information it is impossible to make informed judgement on the type and extent of remedial works required and the most appropriate methods and materials to be specified.

South West Concrete Repairs offer a full range of onsite investigative, exploratory works and destructive and non destructive testing.  Working with the technical departments of our material manufacturers and suppliers we can also offer an independent, comprehensive report and recommendation service.

Visual Surveys
Used to determine the possible reasons for concrete deterioration and the general condition of the structure, plus the extent of works necessary to remedy the failure and the most appropriate repair system to affect repair.

Cover Meter Surveys
Identifies steel reinforcement within the structure and is used to determine steel reinforcement bar spacing, size of reinforcement bars and the depth of reinforcement from the surface.

Carbonation Depth Testing
Used to determine the extent carbon dioxide and other gases have penetrated the concrete, carbon dioxide has a detrimental effect on the concrete's natural alkalinity.

Soundness or acoustic Hammer Test Survey
Gives a general appraisal of the 'soundness' of the concrete and identifies hollow or honeycombed areas beneath the surface. Also used to identify delamination of surface coatings.

Rebound or Schmidt Hammer Tests
Gives an approximate indication of the concrete strength. When used over large areas can also indicate variability in strength over the structure.

Chloride Testing
Determines the amount of chlorides within the concrete. Chlorides lead to an increased risk of corrosion of embedded metals.
