The Problem
The jetty is an MOD re-fuelling jetty on the river Tamar.
Hyder Consulting were commissioned to carry out an investigative and fiasability study and so contracted South West Concrete Repairs Ltd to carry out an investigation and testing survey on the concrete elements of the approach jetty deck slabs, beams and piles and also to the mooring dolphins.
The Solution
Core samples, dust and lump samples were taken for chloride ion, sulphate content, cement content, pull off (bond strength) and strength crush testing.
Visual examination, acoustic hammer testing and cover meter survey were carried out on site along with carbonation depth testing.
A full report was compiled incorporating photographic records, test results, analysis of results and recommendations and submitted to Hyder Consulting for their consideration and inclusion in their own full report.
